Teacher Resources Across the Strands
Sometimes you just want a site that has some information you can use in teaching some or all of the VASOL math strands. Here are some resources to look at when you don't need anything too specific.
Dr. Mike's Math Games. Ever looking for some fun, easy games to play in small groups or at a station? Here's some basic games that students can learn how to play with the teacher, then be able to do in small groups together. It's all hands on which is very important for getting a sound base in mathematics.
Kindergarten Work Sheets. Sure, some of us like to create our own worksheets and assessment forms, but if you're having a busy day why not check out some of these and see if they will be useful to you. Practice other skills, such as fine moter development, by having students color pages after they fill them out.
Math Blaster. This site has lots of free online games that can be used at a computer station in the classroom.
Math Bulletin Boards. Here are some suggestions for how to incorporate your bulletin boards into math instruction.
Something eye catching is more likely to grab a young one's attention, and if you're like me, creative suggestions are welcome.
Math Vocabulary. This site is full of fun ways to teach children their math vocabulary. Students can have a harder time grasping the meaning of some of these words, so new ideas are always worth trying!
PBSKids. PBS has a wealth of online activites that can be used across the entire curriculum. As far as math instruction goes, there are games for numbers, counting, measurement, "math", estimation, and problem solving (plus a few that I'm sure I've missed.) Students can be engaged by familiar character's they love and learn at the same time.
Preschool, Early Childhood, and Kindergarten Songs. This site has a list of different songs you can use in teaching math and other subjects as well. They ahve songs for learning money, calendar time, telling time, and so much more.
